SUN DAMAGE

It's true, you can repair sun damaged skin.

Overexposure to the sun’s harmful rays is a top culprit for a myriad of skin issues including wrinkles, fine lines, hyperpigmentation, rosacea—and not to mention, skin cancer. While sun damaged skin is most commonly experienced by individuals who use indoor tanning beds or intentionally spend time outside in peak sunlight without sun protection, even people who limit their exposure to the sun can experience sun damage.

Fortunately, thanks to innovations in skin resurfacing technologies, it is possible to repair sun damaged skin and restore your skin’s youthful glow.

Most Common Signs of Sun Damage

Sun damage manifests on the skin in a variety of ways. Depending on your skin type, you may be more susceptible to sun damage than others. Generally, people with fair skin tones are more likely to experience side effects from sun overexposure. The most common signs of sun damage that we see include:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Age spots, also called liver spots or lentigines

  • Rosacea

  • Actinic keratosis

  • Dry, flaky skin

  • Loose, sagging skin

How to Repair Sun Damaged Skin

Repairing sun damaged skin is more efficient and effective now than ever before. There are several treatment strategies that can be used to remove sun damaged tissues and trigger new skin growth. For example, a chemical peel or microdermabrasion treatment can remove the top layer of sun damaged skin, while phototherapy treatments like BroadBand Light™ (BBL) and intense pulsed light (IPL) photofacials bypass the top layer of skin and treat underlying damaged skin beneath its surface. Ultimately, the best way to repair sun damaged skin is through a combination of exfoliation and triggering new collagen growth. It is never too late to start treating sun damaged skin. Our treatments can be completely personalized to fit your unique needs and skin type. For example, a patient in his or her 20s or 30s who has only developed mild signs of sun damage may benefit from different treatments than those recommended for more mature patients who may be experiencing deep-set wrinkles and sagging skin. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to repairing sun damaged skin. Your Personalized Sun Damage Reversal Plan These treatments are only a few of those offered by Harmony Healing to help reverse signs of sun damage and reveal healthier, younger-looking skin. Chemical peels, on the other hand, harness the unique power of chemical exfoliation to reveal deeper layers of fresh, untouched skin. Each treatment supports the cell turnover process to improve skin concerns related to sun damage such as hyperpigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles and dark spots.

Microdermabrasion and chemical peels share a common goal of evenly exfoliating the skin and promoting healthy, new collagen production. Microdermabrasion is a non-chemical method of exfoliation that also combines nicely with other sun damage-reducing therapies.

Harmony Healing is home to many of the most advanced skin lasers on the market. It is important to note that the technologies behind laser skin resurfacing have evolved rapidly over the past decade. If you were once wary of undergoing laser skin resurfacing treatments, we encourage you to reconsider. The types of lasers we use, coupled with our operational expertise, make results for patients looking to reverse signs of sun damage extremely impressive. Laser skin resurfacing can lessen the appearance of sun damage and other skin blemishes while creating firmer, younger-looking skin. It resurfaces the outermost layer of skin which smooths over fine lines, dry patches and mild discoloration while also penetrating to deeper layers of the skin to trigger new collagen growth. Our favorite lasers for addressing sun damage are our hybrid fractional laser, HALO™, and our ablative ProFractional™ laser.

Harnessing the power of high energy light waves is a specialty of ours at Harmony Healing. We offer three treatments that work similarly to repair sun damage: IPL, BBL & PHOTOREJUVENATION therapies. These treatments work by targeting sun damaged tissues and encouraging new cell growth and collagen production deep beneath the skin’s surface. Photorejuvenation treatments are perfect for patients who are experiencing sun damaged skin because they can be used to treat the hands, neck, chest or other areas of the body where sun damage has occurred. The light energy emitted from these treatments specifically targets cells with darker pigment and destroys the discoloration while leaving surrounding skin tissues unharmed.
